treatment are provided to people who use all three.

DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT YOUR HEALTH CARE? HERE’S YOUR CHANCE

  Good Afternoon,

The Maine Health Access Foundation (known as MeHAF) is an agency in Maine
that wants people to stay healthy, even if they don’t have insurance. They’
ve asked NAMI Maine and the CCSME to find out what Mainers have to say about
how their doctors and other healthcare workers treat them. They are
especially interested in how physical, mental health care, and substance
abuse treatment are provided to people who use all three. They will use
the information they get to try to fix what isn’t working well.

NAMI Maine and the CCSME (the Co-Occurring Collaborative of Southern
Maine) will ask people across Maine about their health care. Do they feel
they are part of their health care decisions? Do doctors help them
understand what they need to do to stay healthy? What do they like about
the care they receive? What isn’t so good? Can people get the mental
health care they want? Can people get the substance abuse treatment they
want? If they need more than one kind of help, can they get it from one
person ? CCSME and NAMI Maine will be holding focus groups to find out.

  What’s a Focus Group?
Eight to ten people will be asked to meet for two hours to answer six
questions.

  The questions will be:

Tell us about a time you saw a doctor or nurse and what was good about it.

If you could do one thing to improve health care, what would it be?

Can you tell us about a time you or someone you know had mental health
care?

How do your doctors or nurses help you to stay well?

Can you think of a time when you or someone else needed more than one kind
of help, and what happened?

What do you want to tell us about your health care?

The information from the focus groups will be used to understand what is
working, what is not, and what could make health care in Maine better.

NAMI and CCSME will write down what is said, make sure the group agrees
that it is accurate, and send a report to MeHAF summarizing what was said.
No one’s name will be used and the foundation will not know who was in the
group.

  Groups will be held:

Families of people with serious mental illness: OCTOBER 24, 5-7, AUGUSTA

Cumberland County Jail: OCTOBER 30 AND NOVEMBER 2, NOON TO 2PM. PORTLAND.

Maine PreTrial Services: NOVEMBER 6, NOON TO 2PM. ELLSWORTH.

Crossroads for Women. NOVEMBER 22, NOON TO 2PM. PORTLAND

time.

request it.
