Hello Maine NPs !

We need your help ! We have submitted 3 bills to the legislature regarding
nurse practitioner issues and we need your support to aid in their passage.
LD 681 was drafted so that nurse practitioners would be able to sign
involuntary commitment forms “blue papers,” and it has a hearing date for
next week, 3/20/ 07 at 1pm. LD 1212 is a bill that would allow NPs to be
exempt from jury duty if they were providing patient care just like
physicians and some other providers are. LD 981 is a bill that would allow
us to delegate to medical assistants. All of these bills are very important
to us as professionals and this is our opportunity to make changes in our
state that affect us and our patients. Testimony in person at the Capitol
is most compelling but written testimony is very helpful too. Your written
support will help to encourage legislators to vote in favor of these bills.
Also, encouraging other people whom you know to write something is powerful
too, including colleagues. If you are interested in sending testimony or
testifying in person, please contact Pam Cahill at # 621-0313 or email
pam at mnpa.us or via our MNPA website www.mnpa.us. You can review these bills
at the state website
www.Maine.gov then select the government tab then select legislation or go
to http://www.howeandcompany.com/legisweb/1299 for listing, brief
description, and hearing dates/times. The Physician Assistants Association
submitted a bill, LD 754,
that is being heard tomorrow that would allow them to sign death
certificates. They worked with us on the jury duty bill and also are
supporting us on the delegation to MAs bill, so it would be great if we
could send in some testimony to support them. Any assistance that you could
give would be appreciated so as the saying goes
ACT NOW !

Thank-you very much,
Kathy Forti-Gallant FNP
