Thanks to Kathy, Pam, Bob and everyone who worked on this legislation
and also testified at the hearing. It came out of committee
unanimously "ought to pass" which generally means it will pass in the
full senate and house. This bill should solve the whole problem we
have been looking at when NP's work with MA's. WE haven't solved
it any way at our institution and there has been a lot of confusion
on the issue at my work place.

I would still suggest we all send an e-mail or letter to our
legislators requsting them to support this bill. I don't think it
will make a difference in whether the bill passes or not, BUT, it
will make them aware of all of us NP's out here and that we actively
are involved in our legislative process and they'll get to know
us. It will really make a bigger difference in the long run.

SO, if you are reading this and ready to delete it, first, send an
e-mail to your senator and representative, just telling them you're
an NP in their district and you'd appreciate their support of LD 981
(see my example below). Also, send an e-mail to the people in our
organization (as well as Pam and Bob) who really made this happen.

Thanks,

Tom Bartol, NP

Sample letter/e-mail

Dear Senator/Representative _____________

I would like ot request you to support LD 981, "An Act
Concerning the Supervision of Nursing Support Staff" Sponsored by
Representative Anne Perry. I am a Nurse Practitioner working in
Maine and this legislation would significantly help NP's to provide
health care to the people of Maine.

Sincerely,
