I would definitely recommend Carolyn Buppert's book on NP Business Practice and Legal Guide, current edition, and her column on Medscape. She is an NP and a practicing attorney who has written on contracts and has some sample ones in her book.

> You don?t NEED an attorney to review the document to make it legal. However, you SHOULD have an attorney specializing in NP employment law review it prior to signing to ensure that everything is legit. This agreement will be legally binding, and if you sign something you didn?t understand or intend to happen, you wouldn?t have much recourse after the fact. I?m sure one of the regular legal experts on this list can state the case much more eloquently.

> Hello everyone, I'm a new NP hoping for words of wisdom about employment contracts. The woman who might be my boss is a Doc I worked with in the past and she does not seem to like them. A few questions: Does an attorney have to review the contract? Is this required to make it a legal document? Is a written contract just a document that is signed by both of us? Anything else I should know?? Thanks so much,Shana Shana Spitzman, MS, APRNFamily Nurse Practitioner30 Cayuga CourtBurlington, VT802-238-5359
