[NP-Clinical] Beautiful prayer

No one is to blame for this. And the fact that prayer has been taken out of schools etc. is not very conforting. Yes this is a professional list serve but I have read a bunch of junk from other people and I hit delete when I have heard enough of less than professional or non clinical stuff. Do I get offended? No, I figure this is a way for people to give info and connect via the internet. If anyone wants to pray for me I say go for it. I interact with many different patients, students and others and their religion and beliefs are theirs and I would never be so quick as blow them off.
Can we give it a rest?
Melissa

Kim--
To ask for prayers or for listserve members to say "you're in our prayers", etc is one thing (I've certainly said that plenty of times to listserve members) but those are pretty generic statements and everyone is free to do their own PRIVATE prayer in the privacy of their own PERSONAL location. But I do think it's inappropriate to POST a particular prayer on the list as some MIGHT be offended. You have to keep in mind that not everyone on this list is Christian (in the case of this particular prayer, obviously, Catholic) and one can't assume their own prayer will be appreciated by others. So, I would like to propose that we DON'T post prayers on this list. You don't say them in schools, in most places of employment, etc, and I just feel they have no place on a professional listserve. I can't remember another prayer being posted in the 13 yrs or so I've been on the list and I don't see any reason to start the practice now. The end......

Well, gee, I suppose that one would say that I could take the blame for the prayer being offered, if one revisits my 7/31 post when I asked for them in my last sentence.
I fully understand what Dena is saying, nor did I mean to offend anyone who may not subscribe to certain beliefs (which, I did not mention my own, BTW). Professional listservs are certainly not the place for these type of discussions overall.
That said, I did not take offense (on a personal level) to Patricia's email. Perhaps it would have been more "politically or socially correct" to send it privately, yes. But I appreciate the good wishes from those who have emailed me, nonetheless.
I agree with Andy...we have had flare-ups about this topic (and others) in the past, and I will admit, I DID hesitate to ask for ANYONE'S prayers based on those prior flare-ups. However, I have also seen these type of comments posted to Christine, during her grieving time, and Priscilla, dealing with her mother, and a few others, that mentioned others' prayers and well-wishes. I don't know as though we can "pick-and-choose" when it is appropriate to mention "thoughts and prayers" or not.
So if my post inflames things more, then I am sorry. That certainly is not my intent; I have more pressing issues to deal with concerning Mark and my family. I hope that this is the END of this discussion, and my apologies to anyone who construes it as such. And since apparently it is NOT appropriate, I shall never mention it again. :)
