Hi Patricia--

I think that sounds fine for initial management. Since they're (possibly) recurrent, if they come back again after clearing up I'd ask if the kid had had contact with anyone who has herpes labialis (HSV-1); see if they've been kissing the kid or sharing cups/glasses etc.-- and if so, scrape/swab a lesion for viral culture. Also advise them no more kissing the kitty--not so much for this but because sooner or later the kid will tick the kitty off, and then the kid will get hurt on their face (scratch, bite, etc.).

Hello Everyone,
I had a 2 year old come in with papules around the lower lip. Her mother stated she had been kissing a cat and playing with the cat. Two weeks ago she had 2-4 bumps and they went away. Then a week later several bumps appeared and the mother is using caladryl lotion on it Presentation today several papules closed with 1-3 papules with scabs over them. I instructed her to use Bactroban ointment x 1 week, keep hand clean and dry and out of her mouth. Dx contact dermatitis. Would anyone suggest any thing else?

Patricia T
