The American Heart Association has released their new web site “Heart
Profilers” for cardiac patients. It seems to be very comprehensive and has
lots of great tools. AHA Heart Profiles HYPERLINK

americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3000416 appears to be produced
by Thompson Healthcare’s Nexcura Division; HYPERLINK

One of the issues I have, is that the site uses phrases like “Discuss with
MD” on checklists, and “Use the questions provided in your report to
continue discussions with your physicians” in patient articles. No place on
the website did I see a mention of other healthcare providers. It seems
strange that such a comprehensive web site would not be aware of the fact
that there are more than MDs treating cardiac patients. Using the phrase
“Discuss with your MD” seems particularly insensitive not only to us, but to
DOs.

Since AHA must have signed off on the site, I think we need to involve them
in the process of changing the site. AHA’s website does have a few
references to healthcare providers but mostly uses physician when directing
patients. I know that I’m constantly receiving requests from the AHA for
support and I have in the past. Now I think I will not be supporting them
until they support us.

Nexcura contact website is HYPERLINK

American Heart Association has a contact site at HYPERLINK

.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=10000023

I have sent emails to both organizations and I would encourage all on this
list to do the same. If there are folks on this list that have a better
idea of contacts in either organization, please let us know so we can direct
or comments to them.
