[NP-Clinical] Byetta for weight loss

I would be obliged to follow suit with Priscilla. I know diabetics who
have been on Byetta and have experienced no weight loss and then there
is the anecdotal weight loss of those who the drug is not indicated for.
I've been practicing for 38 years and have seen drugs come and go and
give it time and there will be a problem. Yesterday non physician
providers flew under the radar screen of malpractice attorneys; today
this is not the case! I feel compelled that we need to set the standard,
raise the bar and be the examples of proper prescribing protocols which
will make us blameless from the Doc's when another state like Georgia is
harassed by the medical society.
Warmly,
Bob

Actually one of the MD's in our clinic is using it in nondiabetics off
label for weight loss, and is having good results with weight loss- no
hypoglycemia (up to 30# wt loss in a couple). I am like you, I'm afraid
to do it myself, but since the MD here is having such good results, I
thought I'd ask if anyone else was trying it.
Thanks,
April Anthony

Nope, I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. I'm one to
watch a new
drug before I put my license on the line. IMHO, we don't get
paid enough
to take those kinds of risks. Will be curious if anyone out
there is
willing to do this yet.

Are any of you using Byetta for off label weight loss in non
diabetics. We
have one provider who is and is having good results. Of course
insurance
doesn't pay and the patient must sign a waver. Just interested
if anyone
else is trying this?
