[NP-Clinical] Re: More on Ear Problems

I tried sinus  lavage myself last year. The outcome was costly. I had nasal 
congestion,  you know the typical spring cold. I used a nasal saline  (Ary) 
sinus lavage, the kind you use water and a dry package mixture. Did  one nostril 
at a time. The first nostril did fine and then came the second  one. Immediate 
pain in the top of my mouth. I ended up in the ER, facial  CT, ruptured sinus 
cavity. Surgical repair. ENT said to much pressure in block  sinus cavity 
caused ruptured. 
Thinking back  now I laugh and thin glad it happened to me and not one of my 
patients. The ENT  said he has seen this around 200 times in his 12 years of 
practice. I am  really cautious now about using sinus lavage. 
I  recommended using a saline nasal gel now as the force of stream is not as  
strong. I do not recommend using the type of sinus lavage you have to  mix.
