Carilion Health System currently has openings for full-time and 
partime Nurse Practitioners
for Orthopaedics whose advanced knowledge and skills qualify her/him 
to function as a
primary health care provider on an inpatient orthopaedic unit. The NP 
serves as a member of
our collaborative health care team. This collaborative role includes 
responsibility for
determining the patient's health and medical status by taking a 
health histories, performing
physical exams, and initiating appropriate care for our orthopaedic 
patients in the inpatient
units of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Typical responsibilities 
include screening and
diagnostic procedures; providing health maintenance services; and 
management of trauma,
elective total joint replacements, acute illnesses, and stable 
chronic illness. Consults with
orthopaedic surgeons, as appropriate, keeping the physicians informed 
of needs and
problems related to patient care.

The NP uses effective verbal and written communication skills to 
document care and to consult
with physicians, as appropriate, regarding patient issues. He/she 
serves as a resource in the
promotion of optimal patient care, including participation in quality 
initiatives and staff/patient
education. The NP also has sufficient computer skills, in order to 
utilize patient information and
other computer programs in practice.

The 24X7 Practitioner takes call and/or provides coverage on weekends 
as a physician extender.
Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner 
Program. Minimum of three
(3) years clinical experience preferred. Current state license in the 
appropriate discipline. Basic
Life Support certification required. Advanced life Support 
certification preferred. Eligible for
prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as 
authorized by the Virginia
Boards of Nursing and Medicine. Meets credentialing requirements. 
Qualifies for malpractice
insurance and is accepted by Carilion Health System's malpractice 
insurance carrier.
