The Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner applies advanced 
knowledge/clinical skills necessary
to assess/manage the healthcare of high risk, acutely/chronically ill 
patients in both inpatient
and outpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities:
* Performs health histories, physical exams, patient teaching and 
discharge planning. Orders,
interprets and follows up on lab tests and results. Performs selected 
procedures and
documents care orally and in writing. Initiates emergency measures as 
indicated. Recognizes
abnormalities that justify immediate referral for intervention by others.
* Initiates, evaluates, reviews and changes orders for selected 
medications and diagnostic
studies/treatments within physician preceptor approved protocols.
* Assesses, initiates and coordinates patient care on a daily basis 
under the supervision of
the physician preceptor.
* Requests consultations from all services as needed in collaboration 
with physician preceptor
and/or established protocols.
* Acts as a liaison with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare 
professionals within hospital,
providing education, communication and support for healthcare staff, 
patients and families.

Requirements:
* Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; graduate of 
certified or accredited
Nurse Practitioner program
* Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing practice Licensure, 
Registry or Certification
Required: RN licensed in South Carolina and certification in practice area
* Special Training: must possess knowledge and special skills 
necessary to treat patients
