NP/PA Ortho & Spine Administrator
Full Time*

Under the direction of the Senior VP for Medical Affairs and the 
Physician Directors
of the Orthopedic Institute, the selected candidate will coordinate all 
administrative
and clinical aspects of the Orthopedics Institute to ensure that the 
highest degree
of quality patient care is maintained.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
*Coordinating the postoperative care of all orthopedic inpatients in 
accordance with
standard clinical guidelines and protocols, under the direction of the 
attending
orthopedic surgeon. Work in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons to do
postoperative inpatient visits and coordination of discharge processes.
*Diagnose and manage acute and chronic health conditions in any orthopedic
inpatient that you are requested to evaluate.
*Ensure the provision of adequate pain relief/control to this highly 
vulnerable
inpatient population, including consultations and co-management along 
with pain
management specialists.
*Provide consultative services to the Emergency Department for orthopedic
conditions when directed by the Institute Physician Director(s).
*Support patient and family educational programs in general and 
specifically
related to the post-operative inpatient experience.
*Provide occasional operative assistance in orthopedic and spine surgery as
requested by the Surgical NP manager.
*Develop satisfactory working relationships with interdisciplinary 
practitioners
involved in the care of orthopedic patients including internal medicine and
pediatric physicians/hospitalists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, 
pulmonologists,
physical therapists, pharmacists, respiratory therapists & others.
*Assist in the annual preparation of budget for the Orthopedic Institute.
*Develop and be responsible for a telephone "hotline" that the NWH 
orthopedic
patients can call for clinical or administrative questions.
*Establishes long and short-range departmental goals by assessing 
internal and
external conditions to coordinate with the NWH Strategic Plan and Mission.
*Oversees daily departmental activities.
*Performs administrative duties including preparation and management of
department budget, payroll, controlling expenses and overtime.
*Follows NWH policies and procedures in relation to the HR functions 
such as,
interviewing, hiring, coaching, empowering, training, appraising, 
counseling and
disciplining department employees.

Education & Experience:

Nurse Practitioners: Must be a graduate from an accredited generic and 
Masters
nursing program. NYS RN license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in 
New
York State. Certified or certification eligible as an Advanced Nurse 
Practitioner by
ANCC.

Physician Assistants: Must have a Bachelor's Degree or minimum 2 years of
college credit. Completion of a program accredited by the Commission on
Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Successful
completion of the national certification examination given by the National
Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

NPs / PAs: Previous experience with direct patient care. Ability to 
adhere to the
Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations, including the peer review
procedure and regular meetings with the collaborating or supervising 
physicians
as required. Must maintain Medical Staff Privileges in good standing. 
Ability to
maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards. Previous 
experience in
an operating room.
