Possession of valid California RN/NP license. Graduation from an 
accredited school
of nursing. Passing of UCDHS Performance Demonstrations, Policy review and
Medication Exam. Masters degree preferred. Bachelors degree required. 
Has or is
eligible for a furnishing license. The Special Care Nurseries provide 
care to high-risk
neonates. The Nurse Practitioner, under the supervision of the attending
Neonatologist and Nurse Practitioner III-Supervisor, will provide 
independent
advanced level NP clinical expertise to a select group of high-risk 
neonates from
admission to discharge. This primary care includes: examining, evaluating,
diagnosing and establishing a treatment plan; dictating admission, 
transfer and
discharge summaries; and other commonly performed neonatal clinical 
activities,
including attending high risk deliveries, and neonatal resuscitation. 
The NP acts as
an expert resource person for health care providers, orients/precepts 
new nurse
practitioners to the responsibilities of the service, conducts research 
and teaching
programs. Provides supervision/direction to residents and medical students
rotating through the program, and in addition, provide backup support 
for nursing
staff within the Special Care Nursery (SCN).
