*Assistant Director, Advanced Practice Providers - Midwifery Practice*

The*University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics (UI Health)*is seeking an 
Assistant Director, Advanced Practice Providers - Midwifery Practice.

The Assistant Director, Advanced Practice Providers, provides 
administrative oversight and support to Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) 
practice within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the 
University of Illinois at Chicago, UI Health OB/GYN Services and Mile 
Square. Establishes relationships and partnerships with collaborating 
physicians, Medical Director, and UIC OB/GYN Department leadership to 
support and improve the Midwifery Practice, quality, patient safety and 
outcomes of clinical care and regulatory compliance. Functions as a lead 
for the Midwifery Practice, orientation, competency validation and 
professional development of the CNMs within the UIC Department of 
Obstetrics and Gynecology, UI Health and Mile Square.

*_Essential Responsibilities:_*

*Operational Responsibilities:*Administratively leads the Certified 
Nurse Midwives to achieve UIC, UI Health and Mile Square organizational 
goals and objectives.

*Practice Analysis:*Serves as an expert resource in the utilization of 
Certified Nurse Midwives within the area of care delivery. Identifies 
new and existing best practice initiatives, collaborates in the 
determination of competency metrics productivity, and prepares clinical 
outcome data assessment and analysis.

*Hiring/Orientation:*Works in collaboration with the Medical Director of 
the Midwifery Practice and the Director of Advanced Practice Providers 
to establish templates and checklists to ensure documentation of 
orientation. Leads the onboarding of Certified Nurse Midwives within the 
UIC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Works in collaboration with 
the Medical Director of the Midwifery Practice and Director of Advanced 
Practice Providers to maintain documentation related to orientation, 
continued competency validation and credentialing and privileging.

*Financial:*Reviews reimbursement data for the Midwifery Practice 
provided by the UIC Department of OB/GYN Administrator. Assists in 
identifying benchmarks to evaluate billable and non-billable Certified 
Nurse Midwives performances. Reviews EMR clinical visits by the CNMs to 
optimize documentation and billing.

*Scheduling:*In collaboration with the Medical Director of the Midwifery 
Practice and the ACNO, manages schedule, staffing plan and coverage of 
the CNMs at UI Health and Mile Square. Participates in the development 
of annual operational and capital budgets.

*Scope of Practice:*Works within the Bylaws of the University of 
Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System and in adherence to hospital 
and department/divisional policy to ensure that Certified Nurse Midwives 
function within, and to the limits, of their Scope of Practice and in 
accordance with their delineation of privileges or collaborative 
practice agreement. Remains current with state law and scope of practice 
in the State of Illinois. Overseas participates in research activities 
related to the Midwifery Practice. Fosters an environment that supports 
research-related activities. Overseas the education and preceptorship of 
Nurse Midwifery students. Leads/participates in Quality Improvement 
initiatives for the Midwifery Practice. Fosters an environment for 
continual performance improvement.

*Professional Development:*Serves as a resource and champion for 
professional development and leadership opportunities for Certified 
Nurse Midwives.

*Credentialing & Privileging:*In collaboration with the Medical Director 
of the Midwifery Practice, ensures the maintenance of credentialing and 
privileging of Certified Nurse Midwives, including but not limited to 
timely evaluations for OPPE/FPPE for all Certified Nurse Midwives within 
the UIC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Identifies metrics for 
initial, focused and ongoing professional performance evaluation, as 
well as integrated simulation and observation of technical skills.

*Competency Evaluation:*Assist in determining opportunities to increase 
knowledge and skills of Certified Nurse Midwives. In collaboration with 
the ACNO, complete the UI Health yearly performance evaluations for 
Certified Nurse Midwives. Legislative and Health Policy Issues for 
Certified Nurse Midwives and Certified Nurse Practitioners: Establish 
relationships with key stakeholders to assess best practices and 
special-specific changes to Certified Nurse Midwives. Ensures that these 
changes are communicated and reviewed by leadership with respect to 
Certified Nurse Midwives' clinical practice.

*Communication & Leadership:*Demonstrates excellence in written and 
verbal communication, public speaking, presentation skills, critical 
thinking and decision making skills. Clearly understands the 
implications of situations and uses sound judgment when dealing with 
multiple disciplines. Demonstrates ability to facilitate group processes 
and achieve agreement and consensus. Ability to foster a cooperative 
work environment and view success in relationship to group success. 
Demonstrates strong analytical ability and has an understanding of 
statistical and marketing concepts. Possesses strong program development 
skills.

*Department/Specialty Specific Responsibilities** Full time position 
with 70-80% administrative/leadership role as Assistant Director of 
Midwifery Practice, and 20-30% in clinical role as Certified Nurse Midwife.
* 24/7 accountability for inpatient Labor & Delivery CNM services.
* In collaboration with the Medical Director and ACNO, prepare and lead 
quarterly CNM Administrative Meetings with the OB leadership; present 
and make recommendations for FTE assignment of duties for each CNM, i.e. 
in-patient, out-patient, administrative, and teaching.
* Evaluate and recommend changes in current systems and processes 
relative to the Midwifery Practice, and promote optimal 
interdisciplinary collaboration, quality, patient care, safety and 
efficiency.
* Meet at least monthly with the Medical Director of the Midwifery 
Practice to discuss scheduling, administrative issues, clinical, 
competency and professional development of the CNMs.
* Promote the Midwifery Practice through interdisciplinary collaboration 
and team building.
* Work with the Director of Advanced Practice Providers at UI Health to 
support and implement the organizational vision of optimizing the 
provider team initiatives.
* Improve staff engagement and promote a culture of safety, quality and 
caring.
* Celebrate CNMs successes and to create evaluate performance 
improvement projects and initiatives.
* In collaboration with the Medical Director of the Midwifery Practice 
and OB leadership, periodically review Scope of Practice for the CNMs. 
Review the Scope of Practice at least annually with the CNMs.
* In collaboration with the Medical Director of the Midwifery Practice, 
and the ACNO, serve as a representative for Midwifery Practice at UI Health.
* Ensure KRA performance evaluation is completed on time.
* Other duties or projects as assigned.

*_Requirements include:_*

* Current license as a Professional Registered Nurse and Advanced 
Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois required.
* Graduate from an accredited Nurse Midwifery Program with Master's or 
Doctorate degree required.
* Current certification as a Nurse Midwife (CNM) by the American 
Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) or other recognized certifying 
bodies to Practice in the State of Illinois.
* Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
* Current controlled substance licensure if indicated by position.
* Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate 
therapeutic relationships between physician, APRN and PA providers as 
well as college and hospital leadership and the multi-disciplinary team.
* Demonstrated experience in leadership, multidisciplinary 
collaboration, interpersonal communication, education, clinical 
experience and change management required.
* Ability to documentation in the medical record to substantiate 
accurate billing required.
* Intermediate computer skills required.
