Stony Brook University School of Medicine of the State University of New
York invites applications for the position of Nurse
Practitioner/Physician Assistant in the division of Interventional
Cardiology.
*BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:*
Stony Brook Medicine's Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants are
valuable members of the Interventional Cardiology Department providing
essential clinical services to our Cath Lab patient population. We are
seeking candidates to work within the Division of Interventional
Cardiology to provide coverage of our clinical service in the inpatient
setting and outpatient Cardiac Cath Lab. Qualified candidates will
demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication
skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant duties may include but are
not limited to the following:
* Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments of cardiac cath
lab patients from admission/initiation of consult until signed off or
discharged.
* Completes consults for interventional service and daily documentation
of pre and post procedure care within the protocols and practice
privileges approved by the Cardiology Attending and consistent with
established policies and procedures.
* Completes Pre-cath care management to include consents, orders, fluid
management and regulation of medications pre-procedure
* Consults additional services as needed to optimize patients for
cardiac catheterization.
* Completes post-cath care management to include initiating post
procedure orders, post procedure assessment and care, prescribes and
regulates medications, educates patient and primary team regarding post
procedure care.
* Manages acute changes in clinical condition related to procedure,
providing emergent interventions as needed and communicating with
attending cardiologist.
* Collaborates and communicates with primary care team regarding cath
lab procedures pre and post procedure.
* Makes referrals to other health care providers and/or requests
consultative services based on clinical need of the patient.
* Maintains ongoing communication with the Cath Lab Coordinator,
Physician Collaborator and Chief Medical Officer relative to select
aspects of patient care or administrative issues.
* Acts as a resource and consultant to health care staff.
* Develops, conducts and evaluates formal and/or informal continuing
education.
* Participates in Nursing, Medical and Administrative committees.
* Maintains and enhances a current level of knowledge relative to
professional practice, as well as continuing education requirements
necessary for licensure and certification. Attends educational conferences.
* Participates in the research process by contributing ideas, collecting
data, sharing knowledge and applying new findings to practice.
* Participates in the development and review of outcome data to measure
the quality of patient care.
* Other duties as assigned by the Lead Cardiology NP and Cardiology
Department Administrators.
*(4) 10 hour shifts: 7am - 5pm*
*Qualifications*
*REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*
*Nurse Practitioner:*Current NYS RN license. Master’s degree in nursing
from an accredited school. NYS license as an Adult, Family and/or Acute
Care Nurse Practitioner. AANP/ANCC Certification.
*Physician Assistant:*Current NYS PA license. Master’s degree in
physician assistant studies from an accredited school. NCCPA Certification.
ACLS/BCLS Certifications
Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:*
Interventional Cardiology experience
At least one year clinical experience working as a Nurse Practitioner or
Physician Assistant in any of the following clinical settings:
Cardiology, Medicine, Rapid Response Team, Emergency Department or
Critical Care.
New Graduates may be considered if they can demonstrate prior critical
care experience.
Must possess excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills;
customer service/interpersonal skills, problem solving, organizational
skills, time management skills.
