Yep-- it's the truth... I saw 2 of the nurses' employee files (when my
secretary dropped them on the floor so I could pick them up <G>) and their
starting salaries were $68/hr and $69/hr... one is full-time and one is
part-time but neither of them may be getting any benefits. A third nurse
showed me her pay stub when she couldn't figure out if she'd been paid for
all her hours or not and I couldn't help but notice that her base pay was
$67/hr (I actually thought THAT was the number of hours she had worked-- but
she corrected me. I almost fell over in shock!). And she is also full-time
BUT with FULL benefits. AND, this $67-69/hr is BASE pay-- on top of that
they'll get their shift differential, overtime pay, and a charge nurse
differential. As I said, the CNA handbook for our hospital (based on the
latest contract negotiations last summer) showed I would come in at around
$57/hr with full benefits (they don't take type of degree or certifications
into account). The union contract negotiations in our hospital last summer
made our nurses the highest paid in the state-- higher than the Kaisers in
the Bay area. 

I can't believe your hospital pays so little for RNs... are they union?  And
I can't believe YOU were paid so little!! The Nurse managers where I work
got paid much more than me-- and more than the RNs. 

I made about $97K at this job (started 3 years ago at $90K) and will now be
making over $115K at my new job in the VA (still less than I could make as a
RN at my now old job!) At least with the VA they acknowledge and pay you for
every little accomplishment!! 

Anyway, that job is now history as they delivered my final check to me
around 1:30 (with 6 weeks accrued vacation pay in there-- WOWW!!!!)and I
quietly and secretly snuck down the back stairs and out the door... Hasta la
vista!!!  And on to the next chapter of my life <G>.

I have been an RN for $34 years and have never heard of any RN  earning  the

$67-69 an hour you are quoting anywhere in the country.
 
 Here in So. Calif., where the salaries are pretty high to compensate  for 
the costs of housing, RNs in hospitals get $26-35 an hour for the first 8
hours 
then time and a half for the last 4 hours. As the Director of OB last  year,

I got $39 an hour for 40 hours a week. Some registries are paying $35-42  an

hour for L&D for the first 8 hours.
