I emailed Gail Weiss a week or two ago, after someone on the list serve mentioned her article. She seems very nice, and emailed right back to me. She has written quite a few articles, and presented a variety of "forms" for practice. I mentioned that her articles were being read also on a national list serve for NPs and PAs. Here is what she wrote back:
Hi Carla
"Thanks for the e-mail .. Along with the performance evaluation chart, the magazines Feb. 16 issue also contains an article about how PAs and NPs can be excellent additions to a medical practice, and how physicians should go about selecting and hiring a PA or NP. No doubt Ill address this and related topics again, and Ill be glad to call on you when I do."
Regards,
Gail
and in a second email Gail wrote:
"Thanks again for the input, Carla. You make a number of good points.
As I noted, the magazine will inevitably cover this topic again.
Assuming that I'm assigned that article, I'll keep what you've said in mind."

I had mentioned in my email to Gail that NPs and PAs also operate independently, and that the forms might be useful also for new people coming into the office, whether they are MDs or NPs, PAs, etc. Also, that she does have some good Clip and Copy forms. I think it can be construed in a positive light, as physicians often do not understand roles of other providers, or expectations of each are on different pages, and while it often cannot be reduced down to "a form", it does provoke thought, and really, going into a working relationship should be a partnership approach, with as much insight as possible into each others professions. I mentioned that if she needed more information about the NP/PA profession that I or others would be glad to assist directly, as I did not see where her sources of information (about NPs/PAs) were from NPs or PAs, but from persons in other professions, so I thought this might be helpful to her. She is a good writer, and did have some positive
points. Carla/Portland, OR

Nonphysician providers can add significantly to the bottom line. They can also
handle patient education, and may even allow you to take a vacation.

Whether you're reimbursed "incident to" your own services or
under a midlevel's ID number, be sure to follow these rules.
