Michael:

You have spoken the truth, actually. Not only do Floridians suffer in the
heat most months of the year, but the humidity causes additional suffering.
I notice it the most when I've been traveling and I arrive back in Florida.
The humidity hits me like a solid wall of H2O when I get off the plane at
the Jacksonville airport. Boom!

The humidity causes everything to grow mold and mildew. Fighting the effects
of humidity is a full-time job for most homeowners in this state. Molds and
fungus can literally eat the house.

When I was in high school, way back in the 1970's, it was fashionable for
girls to curl their hair with hot rollers or curling irons. I remember
curling my straight hair every morning, and by the time I got to school, the
humidity had made it straight again! It was a hoot. I also remember coming
home from the beach and hanging our wet beach towels out on a clothes line.
The humidity was so bad the towels wouldn't dry for a couple of days.

However, I think that once you've lived down here, you get spoiled by the
overall convenience of the warm climate and it would be difficult to adjust
to living anywhere else. We don't have to wrap pipes in the winter, or worry
about slipping and falling on icy steps and driveways. We don't have to
shovel snow. We don't have to worry about snow tires, hats and gloves, or
boots. We wear the same clothes year round. I don't have to unpack
turtleneck sweaters and thermal underwear in the Fall, or take wool jackets
to the dry cleaners. It's t-shirts, shorts, and Teva sandals most of the
year. But on the chilly days, we wear socks with our sandals!

Cheers,

Shelby
