[NPInfo] Forbes-DNP

As a NP in a DNP program now, I was quite appalled by this article, thanks for putting it on list to see. Excuse me, when I complete this program I will still be Melissa to my patients but hopefully smarter in my area of interest, dermatology. This kind of press will stir up the doc group once again. Already as a NP I take care of those with primary care issues and refer those who are above my practice level, I don't expect that to change. I just want to treat those with skin problems better and become more aware of who to refer. There is a 3 month wait for dermatologists in my area and so if I can treat a problem it will save time and money for the patients. Am I gonna be as smart as the dermatologist, heck no. Will I still refer, heck yeah. I teach and see the DNP as the terminal degree to put me on the same playing field as those I work with.
Only nurses can continually shoot themselves in the foot with asinine statements.
Melissa

Rose: So do I. Two of us agree with Calif NP.
I can't believe the NP profession lets someone say these things. OK, I know
the next question, How does one not allow her? By telling their state and
national orgs including the ACC that this is unacceptable.
I thought of what I would think if a PA said this (much of it is way too
militant for us)
but the part that announces there now are elite PAs who make me look
poorly trained, would be something I would be quite pissed about. And to say
their clinical experience equals that of a physician because they took the
DNP, is to me a rallying cry for a battle I think the regular NP does not
want at this point. I could be wrong..........
