[NPInfo] Who Will Be Your Doctor? (Is Mary Mundinger a NP?)

I'm not sure why we would want to write the medical exam to prove we are
equivalent to an MD...we are not, and I don't want to be an MD. We are just
as good but we are not equivalent because we follow different theories. I
like being a nurse. Besides, why don't they write the NP exam to prove they
are equivalent to an NP? I'm one who is taking the DNP, but I am doing it
for my own satisfaction. I really don't think it will improve my patient
care any more...I am Master's prepared and I feel my education at that level
gave me the clinical skills I need to be where I am today. My DNP has no
clinical in it, so how will it make me more of an expert 'clinician'...the
DNP prepares you to be a leader in clinical practice, ie, develop policies,
programs and use the research that is out there to apply it to your
practice. We already do that now...the DNP is simply a tool to advance those
skills. But taking the DNP won't make me better at diagnosing, prescribing
and doing invasive procedures as the program has no clinical component.
