[NPInfo] Gripe revisited

My 2 cents--
What is needed is/are examiners that are competent doing the exam, not just
examiners who are allowed to do the exam by virtue of having an MD degree.
Meeting one of those criteria doesn't guarantee meeting the other.
The feds started a certification process for people doing DOT exams a few
years ago and while I've lost track of where that process is (I'm not
working in occ med anymore and so I no longer do the exams), their intent
seemed to be that the people doing the exams will be the ones trained to do
them correctly--be they NP, PA, MD, whatever.

Stephanie, et al,
So I re-listened to the CD on the sports pe and I quote (track 14 if anyone
has it) "The new monograph is pretty clear that it's physicians that are
best qualified to perform the sports participation PE .. chiropractors
aren't fully able to comprehensively address all the needs. PA's and NP"s
should really be under the direct supervision of MD and the monograph
suggests this". Ugh.

No offense taken--just filling in the picture.
I think you're making excellent points. Of course, we all know that
articles appear in publications because people who have money or
influence, and want to promote themselves, can get such quasi-
informational pieces placed in magazines like Forbes. Like Rose said,
the uninformed will then be misinformed. . .
