[NPInfo] Re: [ACC-Circle] Taking on Oprah

Send her the demographics on the huge underrepresentation of blacks in the
role of Nurse Practitioner - ask her why she thinks that is? Ask her if
she or any of her sponsors really give a Sh** about it - ask her to put
both her money and her mouth where you hope her heart is. Ask her if she
has considered doing a show with Black, Hispanic, etc. Nurses to advertise
that this is a profession which is wide open to young Blacks with
scholarhips, and comparatively huge salaries & all the room in the world
to advance based on hard work, personality, intelligence and MERIT!  Hmmm?
Why wouldn't she want young Blacks to know that?  Maybe she'd sponsor,
$$$, a group of NPs to go visit the school in Africa she's sponsored for
young Black/African women to speak about careers in Nursing? Maybe she'd
sponsor a group of American Nurses to travel to her favorite African hot
spot and do Malaria, AIDs, etc. education/work?   Maybe write a letter to
candidate Barak Obama (sorry about spelling) and ask him where he AND
Oprah (his sort of sponsor now) stand on Blacks entering Nursing? What
could he possibly say, that Nursing is not a good choice for young Black
women??? Send a copy of his response to Oprah.
