This is a great accomplishment.
But, many of these silly/overtly 'hot' ads, and actresses dressing up in
abbreaviated sensual clothing as 'nurses' probably does more to interest
young women (ie. ages 13-20), together with travel nurse ads on t.v. &
newspapers showing hotties in sports cars & jogging on beaches, in a
career in nursing than all the "don't you want to help people" or "this is
a noble profession" type education and attempts put together!
Don't ever underestimate the power of peer pressure among adolescents and
young adults. Don't ever underestimate the power of young women
watching/remembering what it is that the young men are watching & wanting
to be that image/object/fanstasy/desired, etc. !
I'd be very interested in a psychological study being done where
advertisements/videos, etc. are showing to group of adolescent women,
including these very politically incorrect depictions of actresses posing
as 'nurses' juxaposed with legitimate videos/ads encouraging young women
to go into education, accounting, law, etc. - my bet is that they would
understand how silly/offensive the depictions of nurses were, but
'nursing' as a potential profession would definitely move upwards as
something they'd want to look at closer.
