[NPInfo] the fires, San Diego

I am so proud of San Diego. I consider it one of my homes, as I lived there for 14 years, and worked at UCSD Medical Center ED where the burn center is, for 12 years. I spoke with my previous roommate last night, who lives in Carmel Valley in a condo where I used to own. She had to evacuate, but is back, as it is fairly close to the beach. To think that over 1,000,000 evacuated with I think only one car accident, but virtually seamless, and the organization of dmat and rescue organizations is one of the best in the world.
I was involved in the Cedar fire in 2003, living in Alta Loma California and we had to evacuate, and the home next to us and across were burned.(it was scary, the flames were across the street) . and this one was larger than that one. Strangers helping strangers, people opening their homes, giving cash, etc is amazing. I think the reverse 911 calls to virtually every home saved so many lives. One man said, they got the call, and flames were eating the curtains of their home. They had seconds to evacuate.
A sad thing is that there was arson, in at least the Orange County Santiago Cnyn fire, and what is so bad, aside from all the damage, is that fire resources had to go there, for an intentional fire, taking away from saving homes in danger and lost from the San Diego fires. Carla/Oregon

Glad to hear that you have personally come out ok. I love San Diego and
this is a devastating event. I keep watching the news and am having a
difficult time wrapping my mind around the magnitude of it all.
