Michigan might just be an option. at least they advertise that they are
MICHIGAN and don't try to pass themselves off as a national organization
that never advances past the middle of the country. I will happily support a
state organization that cares enough about their NPs to put on a quality
educational program in a fantastic environment and lets the otherwise
ignored masses of NPs from the west coast in. It has my vote!! With Meth
Coffee, I'll be racing the horses in the streets!

So Dena, if we promised to have a booth with this combo, will you come to
the Michigan conference in 2 years? I'll give you a $50 Starbux card and
treat you to a real margarita or drink of your choice. Michigan will NOT be
silent and there will be more than Horse hoofs .. . lol. We'll get the
trots? Take a gallop poll to see who wants Dena to jump on the saddle and
fly there. 2 years to plan!! Bring Chris and Jeff and all the Calif on a
hippie bus. Seriously would LOVE to meet ALL of you! And Calif NP PLEASE
come and unmask your self/selves!
I KNOW this should be on NP info but it's a reply so I profusely apologize
to whoever gets so upset about it. . can't remember who.
I'm APPALL-logie izing so hope it's accepted?

Ooooooh, oooooooh, ooooooh!!! I've just read in the San Francisco Chronicle
about a "book swap" event being held this week where the advertisement reads
".and after drinking the free Meth Coffee, you'll probably be charging up
and down the aisles. After which you can come down with $1 beer and wine."
Meth coffee???? Free?? And $1 wine???? Hey, I'M THERE!!!! What a
wonderful, well-rounded, and thoughtful combo.. LOL

Dena and Marty:
ROFL!!! Yall are great! I have to admit, I have my own little caffeine habit
also. I hung a poster on my office wall that shows a 1950's-style (June
Cleaver-ish) lady with a placid smile, holding a cup of coffee in her dainty
hand (pinky finger out, of course). The caption says "I haven't had my
coffee yet. Don't make me kill you!"
When I was working at the VAMC, long lines of employees would file
downstairs to the Java Shop every morning to buy a drink called a "Red Eye".
I think it was a tall regular cup of coffee with a shot of espresso in it.
Wow! It would make your eyes bulge. Unfortunately, it also made my pulse
race and my speech sound like acute mania.
So, we've got sleep labs popping up all over the country, in hospitals,
store fronts, strip malls, etc. Nobody can sleep anymore. We might miss
something that's happening in a chat room, on late night TV, or at the
24-hour health club. As if caffeine isn't enough of a problem, here comes
Halloween this week, one of the year's major candy holidays. Now we can also
get a sugar rush, in addition to our coffee and Sudafed fix!

Don't forget to chew that Sudafed. It's such a downer without it. Marty

I don't have any idea how to improve this situation either but I'm in the
process of swallowing a No-Doze while pouring some Red Bull into my
Starbuck's double espresso and will stay up all night pondering the problem.
I should have an answer back to you bright and early tomorrow morning. I'm
sure I'll still be up by then.

I've heard young people refer to Red Bull and other energy drinks as "liquid
crack". I think "Generation Y" perceives the drinks, as well as other
caffeine sources, as being necessary to maintain the energy level it takes
to keep up with a world that never sleeps. When I was growing up, stores
closed up at 9:00pm, restaurants generally closed at 10:00pm, and most TV
networks shut down after midnight. There was nothing to do late at night and
nowhere to go. The world slept at night.
Now there's the internet, and almost every town has 24 hour eateries,
shopping centers, health clubs, and entertainment facilities. We work more
hours than our parents' generation did and we endure longer commutes to and
from our jobs. There's no time to rest. We are a society that never sleeps.
We have very little down time for rest and relaxation. I have no idea how to
improve this situation.
