[NPInfo] Katie Couric's Katrina Piece

I agree, I did not get the sense even as a medical person, let alone a lay person that she was a Nurse Practitioner, and what that entails, and how critical her work and extent of scope is. It is unfortunate, people still do not know, and this would have been an excellent way to erase some of that invisibility. People do not know, if you ask them to explain, what the difference between a nurse and a nurse practitioner is..even many massage therapists and others in the healthcare field. Also, even though the retail clinics utilize NPs and do so much advertising, we are still portrayed as being "able to perform simple tests" and follow physician directed guidelines... I did that as an RN many years ago when I worked for a company that contracted with the county jails of San Diego, so it is easy to see why the public would not know the difference. This is just my take, also. Maybe others have a different view. Carla/Oregon
Mavis Hampton <Mavis at tx.rr.com> wrote: Maybe I'm overly critical of the interview, but I thought it made her look
more like a home health RN. The one little mention of "practitioner" at the
beginning was quickly said and never mentioned again. If you missed that one
word, you missed the fact she is a Nurse PRACTITIONER.
I actually had some friends call me and tell me this (after I'd asked them
to tune in and watch.)
Nice advert for home health nurses though!
Just my 2 cents,
Mavis
