I have experienced some wage issues in Oregon, where NPs are getting paid 32-42.00 an hour, called independent contractors, when they are really employees with regulated days/hours/schedule with no benefits..the people that own the clinics are intelligent, but say that this is the going rate, some have even said they have never heard of giving a percentage of reimbursement.. others have just ignored the independent contractor rules vs employee rules.. I am not sure what is happening here, as this is not keeping up with the national average. I cannot speak for all institutions, but this has been true for three positions out of 4 that I have worked for, and the other position, while paying slightly better, had some major disorganization..all of these places have liability issues and poor clinic organization and policy utilization. Maybe it has just been my luck? As I said, I cannot speak for everywhere.I am continuing to build my own practice, but will not work for
organizations that do not treat Nurse Practitioners with respect, and at least give credit to admit that certain things are not being done properly. Carla/Oregon

Pay for cost of living was the best in the country in Central Florida until this place was discovered and we had an invasion of people here. Now the housing costs, which were on par with Lexington, KY, have tripled while a lot of the country only doubled (or didn't appreciate much at all).

Do you mind if I ask hat type of practice you work in that you are so well compensated? Are you in a specialty practice? The NPs here in Northern VA don't make salaries of >$100,000 unless they are in a highly specialized practice, taking call and rounding at the hospital.
