Hi Greta and All,

I have the entire report as I lecture from this in my Seminars around the
country - not hard to get the report - Also, I did a report on this and
spoke with a number of people at CNS ----and many wonderful NPs in Florida -
the rest of the story is the MDs were allowed to go bare - by statute were
allowed not to carry insurance - they had to anti up a bond I believe of 250
thou - if sued and they lost they had 60 days to pay or risk losing
license ---

That left the NPs with the insurance - so HEY why not sue the NPs who were
supervised by the MDs ------

Then it was my understanding that CNA declined to insure new NPs - were
doubling and tripling their rates - insuring the NPs for less coverage and
then there was the age old battle of occurrence vs. claims coverage and of
course the NPs had short shift again ---

This is part of how the NPs got sucked into the Frey for having the highest
rate of malpractice claims -

Since this I have not followed this closely - I did understand that the
nurses were going to be allowed to go bare too but they had to anti up
$100 thous and the same thing if they lost - I also hear tell that other
insurers were coming thru and CNS was going back to insure the NP for
professional liabilities.

ALSO, This is one woman's understanding - I am sure that folks like Jeff,
Roger, Jean , Janice form Florida will indeed have much to contribute and
please please CORRECT ME if any of this is my misunderstanding

And to boot there is a play that made Broadway on an MD who tried to hide
all his assets - but it became a comedy with the girlfriend and the wife
-----

And so Ladies and Gentleman,

My version of the naked truth about Going Bare!!!!
CORRECTIONS ??? COMMENTS ?????

REMEMBER its the institute of Medicine that States the patients are being
killed at a high rate of MEDICAL ERROR not the Lawyers !

Connie NP NH ps sometimes my messages bounce back - if anyone out there
knows me and gets this - will y'all let me know - Thanks

Very interesting risk managment/claims study on NPs. (January 1, 1994 and
December 31, 2004). Even shows claims made to CNA/NSO by state. Not
surprising, as mentioned on this listserv, Florida tops them all.
