Do you not think we have contacted the school?
The university does not care they are receiving their money ans also free, preceptors, I preceptored at different university and we at least were awarded a free gym membership.
Personally I am growing weary of the DNP, debate, I am very happy for NP's that want to go back to school. I do not want to at my age.I feel sometimes that if we do not go for our DNP, we are less of a NP.
I have been an NP for 20 years and fought many for the,NP's role. I?should not be made to feel that something is wrong with me because I am making a lifestyle choice.
Lets see I am in my 50's and I should go to a school and pay,? at least 10000 dollars a year plus work my ass off to get a degree that will do what for me?
I paid my dues.

I agree with Nancy. I precept routinely for Oakland University students in
Rochester, Michigan. I have developed a reciprocal relationship with Oakland
University (which is not my alma mater) over the years and am on their NP
Committee as 'adjunct faculty' (not paid, but looks ok on the resume and gives
me contact with academia). This university is absolutely concerned with the
best interests of their students and in recognizing and supporting their
preceptors. Faculty make routine visits to the sites twice a semester, ask for
written evaluations of the students, invite preceptors to appropriate events,
and, as in my case, involvement with the program. I have always felt
appreciated and never abused. If one is experiencing such negative things, I
recommend contacting the university and/or discontinuing the relationship.
As for the missing clinical components in practice- I wish that I felt competent
in all the areas that Marilyn mentioned. I have attended seminars, skills
workshops, conference workshops, purchased and reviewed numerous educational
materials on all of the mentioned areas of deficiency. Despite these efforts, I
keep wondering how it is all second nature to my collaborating doc and a
challenge to me. Bridging that gap is where I what I would hope a DNP would
achieve - I don't think that I am hearing that is the case.
