preceptorship and the authors observation...

NANCE RESPONDS:  Call it residency or clinical  practicum...   skills are 
learned there...   Also, keep in  mind the levels of skill acquisition [novice to 
expert] in any field...and  typical time it takes to be "competent".. 3 
years!   For RNs who enter  NP practice with clinical experience and BS in nsg the 
learning curve for  "competent" is shortened.
 
There is a big difference in compentency for all  clinicians at time of entry 
in to practice vs. with experience. Outcomes and  expectations at end of 
education/entry into practice are clearly  defined.
