In NY an NP can order PT. We can also prescribe dangerous drugs :-)
Call your state organization to clarify this practice issue.

We had some problems with respiratory therapy a few years back, but it was
resolved with the assistance of our state NP association. It seems some
therapists would not accept the orders. For me , this is another good reason to
belong to your state organization. We will only be as strong as our weakest
link. If the state organization is weak, members leaving, not being
politically active, not lobbying, not watching out for legislation that is or will be
harmful to our role, then it becomes your responsibility to make the
organization better. If you are joined by 75% of your fellow NPs, just imagine what
clout! Sadly, it is usually way below that number, and the gains accomplished
by a few are truly impressive. There are NPs out there that go blindly
through their career, without a single thought of being professionally active, until
they run into a brick wall they never saw coming because they didn't have the
"time" or the "money" to invest in their professional organization.
Sorry for the soapbox rant.
good luck
Claire Vacca
