[NPInfo] Scoliosis

Stephanie is correct.? Scoliosis in a 5 year old requires a comprehensive orthopaedic consult, preferably by someone with a lot of ortho experience dealing with kids.?? Early-age scoliosis can be an indication of one of the neurological diseases, such as neurofibromatosis (look for cafe au lait spots on skin; any hairy patches on lower back?).??More investigation should be done.

? Susan needs to advise the family to pursue further consultation, if they haven't already.

Hi,

Off the top of my head, without looking it up, I seem to recall that scoliosis 
in children that age is handled differently from scoliosis in older kids as 
often the causes are different. 

Was the diagnosis confirmed by an X-ray and/or orthopedist? Hopefully it was not 
diagnosed by a chiropractor? (I would think with an NP in the family that 
wouldn't happen, but you never know.)
