Greg- it seems like every now and again, we get another wake up call from the malpractice insurers.
I have had insurance with Marsh (actually started several companies ago- that ended up as Marsh through consolidations, etc) since the 70s- and all the various turmoil over the years.
I was excited this June when I learned that AANP had negotiated with Marsh to provide a group rate to AANP members (actually the insurance is thru Chicago Insurance Company) , with an additional ten percent discount upon meeting qualifications like being certified.
The information is not on the AANP website yet, but should be shortly.
Hope this helps- it is disconcerting to have someone mess with your malpractice insurance.

It sounds pretty weird! Nationwide, according to insurance industry
statistics there has been fewer 'lawsuits' for medical negligence. Sounds
like BS from this carrier- the BS always seems to run with the onset of
elections/political tides.

Subject:[NPInfo] Malpractice insurance
Hello All:
In the process of renewing my malpractice insurance in New York.
Received a letter that NSO is moving my insurance to an affiliated surplus
line
carrier, Columbia Casualty Company. This because there has a been an
increase in
lawsuits. So the original policy with American casualty has be changed.
Additional information states that NSO was unable to obtain a policy through
authorized New York companies. As a result an unauthorized policy through
Micheal
Loughran was granted.
The unauthorized policy is not subject to regulations of the
superintendent of
insurance pertaining to policy forms. Then goes on to say in the event of
insolvency (bankruptcy), losses will not be covered any New York State
Insolvency
fund.
What is this about? Has anyone experience this? Any other policy choices
in New York?
Greg
