[NPInfo] collaboration question

To this day, I have yet to meet a single physician who can describe the practice of nurse practitioners in terms of scope of practice, education, difference between NPs and other health professionals with a degree of detail and accuracy etc. 
   
  My point is that it is the burden/responsibility/task/etc. rests with us to bring the information to the physician so that appropriate marketing, promotion, and representation etc is offered to the community and patients. 
   
  Why should physicians know about nurse practitioners. They are expected to work with/hire nurse practitioners yet medical internship and residency and practice do not offer physicians sufficient education about the practice of NPs.
   
  I approached one of the Pri-Med keynote speakers after his talk and asked when they were planning to offer a workshop for physicians who may be interested in working with nurse practitioners. He said, "I actually work with a nurse practitioner". However, he indicated that he did not fully understand the background though knew enough to have her in the practice.
   
  He did, however, ask me to submit a proposal for a workshop.

Our local paper has run newspaper ads with "midlevels" being photographed in
their home/neighborhood in street clothes with a cozy look and a heading, "I
met my primary care provider at my daughter's soccer game" One was a male
PA who collects vintage cars. So the "guy to guy car camaraderie" perhaps?

What does that have to do with the price of rice? I think the marketing
idea is that your NP or PA (both have been featured in these recent ads) is
they're your friend, your kids' friend's parent etc. NOTHING about their
profession or abilities. Perhaps, giving them the benefit of the doubt,
they're trying to market the approachability of NP's and PA's but you'd
NEVER see that about a doc ad. The subversive message I thought was making
us the common folk you can chat with. Kind of a twisted message on our
personal approach but demeaning in my opinion.

I just got home from a visit to my primary care physician. On the way out of
her office, I noticed a flyer on the wall announcing the hiring of a nurse
practitioner. There was a nice photograph of the NP in her lab coat, and a
brief bio listing her education, experience, and board cerfication. At the
bottom of the announcement, the following statement was posted:

"Our physicians will be available to assist with the nurse practitioner's
clinical decision process if needed". 

What do yall think about that?
