[NPInfo] collaboration question

I don't know why Shelby doesn't see an NP, but I will tell you why I don't.
I CAN'T. There are no NP's (or PA's) within 100 miles (at least) who
provide primary care. Of the 10 NP/PA clinicians in my immediate area, we
ALL work in some type of specialty (I work ER, mental health, and staff
"walk-in" hours in one of our clinics), or are "Dr. So-and-So's" PA/NP. In
the case of the later, the clinician "helps out" the doc by seeing
inpatients (especially after-hours admissions), the patients he doesn't want
to see or is too busy to see, or basically being a grunt. But they remain
the patient of the physician. None of the local clinics will hire us to be
primary care providers because the physicians do not want to "lose"
patients. Even though many of our family practice docs have closed
practices since they are so busy. Anyway, your post just inspired me to
rant a bit--sorry! Thank you, though, as I do feel better now.

Lisa
