Carolyn Buppert has an article on Medscape which
addresses this question somewhat:

It would be difficult to give a blanket answer
regarding what an MDs liability is since this depends
upon the employment relationship to the practitioner,
the specialty, and the state in which you practice.
However, Carolyn does make some good points to argue
against MDs asserting so much control in their
relationship with NPs....more liability. Also, anyone
can sue anyone else at any time, so it depends what
you mean by "liability".
I keep wondering if that, in the end, will diminish
the mandatory collaboration/supervision scenario with
which so many of you are saddled. However, as Shelby
has lamented, the money being generated by NPs to
their MD employers is a steady stream due to
restrictive laws and policies, and perhaps that amply
covers the extra, oh, 375.00 a year that their "group
policy" requires when they employ you.
