Stephanie, small amounts of bio identical testosterone, estradiol,
progesterone, and DHEA can be very helpful. The key is looking at the risks and
making sure you are not creating side effects or additional problems. Monitoring
lab doing a saliva testosterone test over a full day etc can be helpful.
Using prescription Estradiol can be helpful also but topical is better in
bypassing the liver. Premarin raises Estrone- E 1 which normally rises after
menopause and is more apt to go down the 16 pathway in metabolism and lead to
increased risks of Breast CA - Clots etc. It also can create an imbalance of the
estrogen- progesterone ratio which can be more harmful and cause more of the
symptoms of menopause than just be low on one or the other. Estradiol E 2
is what binds to your SHBG and helps with the symptoms of menopause.
Marcelle Peck NP has some great info on the Women to Women web site.
