here is a link to the AMA SOPP (Scope of Practice Partnership)(lest we forget their main goals in all of this) (taken from the Coalition of Patient Rights web site) ...which seems ultimately what they are working towards. All the numerous "resolutions" the recent FTC ruling in Ill. has stopped them for the moment. From the official AMA website...http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/17840.html
Again...the Norr-Pennington Doctrine will probably "fit" their purposes...since they'll claim they have no hidden agendas but sound patient care...and this is how State Legislatures and lay people continue to bow down and pass their legislation because it "seems" compassionate and in the best interest of the health care issues facing people (including legislators) not to mention....State Legislators have difficulty grasping Scope of Practice issues we all have...so (of course) who better to step up to the plate then the AMA and tell legislators they'll monitor and help establish scopes of practice and answer all their questions!!...lest we forget to recent defeat (barely) here in Oregon with SB 717. That was way to close for comfort.
