[NPInfo] Oregon Age of Majority

Tracy Klein whcnp at comcast.net

There is a difference between the age at which a minor can seek
treatment and when they can decline treatment.
The minor in this case was 16 and allegedly refused treatment. The
law is not clear on refusal, since the law as written presumes that
the primary issue would be the ability of a minor to seek treatment
without parental consent. This has come up before as an issue when
teens choose
to refuse chemo, but the law was not revised in that case.

http://www.oregon.gov/BCSW/pdfs/Age_Of_Majority.pdf

The legislature has declared intent to look more deeply into
treatment refusal. It will be interesting to see if they are successful.
