Is this working straight time or overtime?? Do you work in a hospital??

Debbie

I work for USC doing clinicals one day a week and weekend option at the
hospital. But we figured out if I work my weekends and pull 2 more days a
week which is 48 hours a week I can make the same amount I earned doing the
clinicals with a lot less effort. So I cut back to just one clinical. I
tried teaching a class or doing 2 clinicals---way too much work. As a
matter of fact my husband pointed out that he saw me more when I worked as
an NP and was pulling 55-70 hours/week. I pick up a few stray hours serving
on committees and just did a review of the literature on restraints and
confused patients that will be presented to the DON. But I like this part
the best, if I want to work extra I can if not I don't. I love weekend
option because I really only have to work 2 days a week. And I don't have
kids and my husband has been disabled since 1996. The real reason I turned
to nursing is because of the stability. No one will fire me from nursing if
I fall down the stairs and break my foot while the doctor I worked not only
did that he tried to hire me back when the foot healed. I am sick and tired
of small little tin Gods running their offices like a kingdom and having to
deal with their power struggles. As a nurse I am treated better and a large
organization will never do anything like forget to pay me---true story,
different MD. Or pay me with a personal check that never really added up
correctly. That doc even had to send me corrected W-2s but I think that she
shorted me some cash---moved on from there. My hat is off to you fighting
the battle, I just gave up I am told old to take such #$%^. If the right
position landed in my lap I'll take it but I am spending my energy pointing
out why nursing isn't such a bad profession after all and why we can do a
better job at what we do if we collaborate and work together as team---MDs,
NPs, nurses and nurse techs! After all maybe I'll get to retire in 15 or 16
years....
