Yes, pretty scary how years of hard-fought for independence can vanish in a
millisecond. Can't believe this ubiquitously appeared. Good for Dqave for
picking up the radar so we can turn it around BEFORE it comes to pass.
Vigilance is the word of the day to keep alert as to dangerous power shifts.

I've got my Wasabi handy, because I can smell fish all the way out here in
California.
This would set a precedent that would be problematic for all of us.

At this time I thought it wise to let everyone know what was going
on, BUT not to ask you to do anything. That decision will be up to
the NY State Society of PAs.
Interestingly, the physician that made allegations against the PA at
Mercy Hospital in Long Island and who was recently on Fox News as a
"patient advocate" or something close to that, and who went on to
denounce "midlevels" on that broadcast submitted a resolution to the
Nassau County Medical Society. This resolution asked that for
"patient safety" issues PAs in NY be required to have "direct"
supervision (physician in the building). I am not sure if it is to do
procedures or for all general practice. Anyway, THE NASSAU COUNTY
(And possibly the Suffolk County Medical Society also!) PASSED THE
RESOLUTION and agreed to send it up to the Medical Society of the
State of NY for their House of Delegates meeting.
Interestingly, the PA law in NY never required "direct" supervision.
It is in effect for 35 years.
It is not in dispute. NO, I repeat, NO evidence shows it needs
fixing. In fact, the evidence would show that the close to 7,000 PAs
in NY State have been practicing so well, the supervision
requirements should be minimized as was just done with the MD/PA ratio.
When Dr. C began to say that one particular PA at Mercy Hospital was
dangerous, no other doctor stood by his side to agree. No other
physicians in other hospitals echoed his thoughts. No nurses or NPs
or pharmacists throughout the state of NY stood by him. Even after
his press conference to say that PAs were practicing in a way he felt
was negative made many TV, radio and newspapers across the state, no
echos of his thoughts came forth. In fact, many physicians questioned
where Dr. C was coming from?
So he goes to the Nassau (and the Suffolk?) Medical Societies and at
least one of them agrees to back a motion to require direct
supervision of PAs. In fact one or both societies VOTE to sponsor
this motion to the MSSNY HOD. WHY? Why would any physicians vote yes
to sponsor this motion? I think this question must be asked ASAP. Am
I the only one who sees something fishy going on here?
More to come................................
