An angiocentesis??/ Good grief-- I've been away from OB way tooooooo long (since school)! They used to just stick a needle in the belly and draw out some amniotic fluid... now they do that by angio?

Hello All:
I have a personal women's health related question. I do not know much about OB/GYN or womens health. I have been working in geriatrics for most of my career as a NP.
My wife and I have had exciting news that she is preganant about 6-7wks now. My wife had a sonogram which showed one baby with a heart beat.
However we are both 40yo and realize that with age there is a greater risk of down syndrome.
So now we are considering which test would be necessary an angiocentesis, or chorionic villi sampling.
So far we are leaning towards the angio, because it is less risky to the baby and termination is still an option. But we know it will be done latter in the pregancy versus the CVS which may be done in 10 weeks.
Now the OB/GYN has not steered us in one direction for liablity issues so I do not expect anyone to do so in the group.
Looking for experiences people have had and resources available.
Thank you
Greg
