[NPInfo] herniated disc in 20 year old

I have a 20-year old, pre-med son/student who recently blew out his L4-5 lumbar disc playing basketball.? Had 
his first epidural steroid injection with equivocal results thus far, and is 
asking me (an orthopaedic nurse practitioner with LOTS of experience with spine, 
but very few patients his age with this problem) what his prognosis is.??

?How many of you have treated kids his age with this problem, and what have you seen 
in the long run?? ?how many go on to resolution?? ?how many need surgery?? ?any 
suggestions????? ?he's also in PT and on pretty useful drugs.
