[NPInfo] FNP cert

With the Feds, you usually just have to have a license to practice in ANY
state-- not necessarily the state that you are physically practicing in.
SO... what state rules does one follow in THAT case? The VA does not use the
CA term designated for NPs-- they have their own (RNPs)-- is CA going to
come after me and yank away my license because I'm not using THEIR state's
term on my legal documentation??? Let CA fight the Feds on that one... and
leave me out of it. If one does not have a license in the state they are
practicing in and working under Federal protection in that respect, how does
one KNOW the laws of that particular state-- and why should they care? Are
the state BONs even aware of when a NP with another state's license is
working in a Federal site in their state? The VA sets the scope of practice
for their NPs. CA allows NPs to write for Category II-V controlled
substances... our VA doesn't. It might be the other way around in other
states. So, who's the boss-- the State or the Feds???

Even working in a federal facility, you have a mandate to follow the rules
of the state within which you practice.? Sometimes the feds bend the rules,
but the NCSBN has recommended that state boards discipline individuals at
federal facilities who do not adhere to state law.? I have seen instances
where the state boards in Arizona and Texas disciplined nurses working in
federal facilities who do not adhere to state law.

I work in a Federal facility so I don't need to adhere to any state rules
<YIPEE>. So, according to the ANCC these days, it's just MSN, RN, FNP-BC???
No APRN in there anywhere? Correct? Hopefully these new cards will last me
another year before ANCC decides to change things again.

Check with your state- In Washington it is ARNP. So I use on my card ARNP
FNP-c to cover my AANP cert and the state name but I sign ARNP. In Texas I
think it was FNP-c

I sign RNP on my charts (or the electronic charting signature does it for
me) but it's time to order new business cards at work and I need to know
what the whole flipping official title is now since it has changed since I
ordered cards last year.

For years now, I simply sign NP at the end of my name at work. I think this
is most appropriate, since docs sign only MD or DO after their names,
without a mention of their college degrees or speciality credentials.
Of course, I tend to sign NP on my personal checks also ; - )
