I know there are many courageous entrepeneurs out there! There is a holistic health center that wishes to include me in their practice. They currently have a Chiropractor, Acupuncturist, Nurtritionist and Personal Trainer. I would be an independent practitioner doing consults for Women's Health (hormonal balancing, PMS, peri-menopause, libido issues). I will not be doing exams there. 1) What are the requirements for my back-up doc? Must they come to the premises and review charts? Is there a minimum amount of time they must commit? What is the average compensation for that docs time? 2) I do hope to expand my services to skin care/aesthetics (not sure what I'm allowed to do ~ scope of practice issue ~ does anyone know the laws about what we are allowed to do?) Also, there were some emails circulating about skin care procedures, and how it's difficult to get malpractice insurance when you do include these services. How have you managed this? 3) Any ideas about how to set up the agreement with the chiropractor who owns the building? Rather than pay rent, perhaps share a percentage of my revenue with the Chiropractor who owns the building? Has anyone done that? I appreciate any input!! Looking forward to your replies!!! I am currently in practice with an Acupuncturists. However, I cannot answer many of your questions as they are not issues I've had to deal with. In WA State, I don't have to worry about MD back up. That said, here are some suggestions. 1. Is this practice a cash based practice? My experience is that insurance may not cover what you are mentioning below. 2. Will these providers be "feeding" patients into your funnel? 3. Check with your state board regarding oversite regulations and scope of practice 4. check with insurance companies directly - I found many of the things I thought were "law" if you will, were just misunderstandings. Make sure you are clear with insurance companies and they understand what you are asking. I had a hard time getting insurance because I happen to share space with an Acpuncutrists. 5. There are various ways to set up your "leasing" agreement. You can pay rent, pay a percentage, pay per client, etc. Make sure it's clear what this payment covers (clerical/clinical support, business insurance, use of phone and other equipment, etc). 6. Get all agreements in WRITING, I hope this was helpful. I invite you to also post your query at www.NPBusiness.ORG , you may get further ideas there as well. Barbara C.
