Greetings,

For many years, my work has been informed and inspired by the pioneering
vision of Florence Nightingale, “the lady with the lamp.” In fact, on many
long nights at the hospital I often felt her spirit around me. For years, I’ve
been a champion of nurses and nursing, like my friend Barbie Dossey, who has
initiated the Nightingale Declaration Initiative to raise public awareness
about the critical role of nursing in healthcare. If you, like me, feel moved to
sign this declaration, which follows, here’s your opportunity!

Many blessings,

Christiane Northrup, M.D.

Dear Concerned Citizens of the World,

Your family’s health, your health, everyone's health is at risk!

PLEASE GO TO _WWW.NIGHTINGALEDECLARATION.NET_
(http://www.nightingaledeclaration.net/) NOW. SIGN THE NIGHTINGALE DECLARATION CAMPAIGN.

Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), founder of modern nursing, had a clear
vision of nurses' key role in promoting health and well-being for humanity for
future generations:

“In the future which I shall not see, for I am old, may a better way be
opened! May the methods by which every infant, every human being will have the
best chance at health—the methods by which every sick person will have the best
chance at recovery be learned and practiced." —Florence Nightingale, 1893

Unfortunately, Nightingale's dreams are in jeopardy. Today, 80 percent of
the world’s healthcare is delivered by nurses. A severe nursing shortage in the
U.S., Europe and developing countries is creating serious, adverse impacts
on human health and well-being worldwide. Dr. Hiroko Minami, President of
International Council of Nurses that also manages the Florence Nightingale
International Foundation, and Alan Gibbs, Chair of the Burdett Trust for Nursing
join in saying: "Overcoming this crisis will require exceptional advocacy and
leadership...addressing the magnitude of issues is not something any one
organization can do alone."

So we, at the Nightingale Initiative for Global Health (NIGH), ask you to
join us—and a great many others—in taking the first crucial step.

How can your signature make a difference? You will help us reach our goal:
two million signatures urging the UN to declare 2010: International Year of
the Nurse and 2011-2020: UN Decade to Create a Healthy World. Your support
will overcome our most formidable obstacles in improving global health—raising
public awareness. Together, we can realize Nightingale's dreams, making
compassionate care and healthy lives a birthright worldwide—local to global.

PLEASE SIGN THE NIGHTINGALE DECLARATION CAMPAIGN NOW AT
_WWW.NIGHTINGALEDECLARATION.NET_ (http://news.hayhouse.com/t/202050/1390007/182/0/) .

WE, nurses thank you for your help. Together, we can make this difference.
