[PrvPracNP] medical malpractice

Audrey,
I think it is also governed by the different states.
If you are practicing in WA, your practice is much less restricted then
those of
us on the east coast.
That is the main problem with the insurance companies that I have dealt with
over here.
They don't understand the scope of practice of an APN.
I have to also send them copies of the state board practice acts.
I have also had to have the Director of Health Policy for the AANP get
involved with some of
my malpractice insurance issues.
Hope you continue to have good luck with NSO.
That is not the case with many of us over here on the east coast.
Thanks

NSO is not very advanced practice friendly.
They dont want to insure nurse practitioners in private practice.
They also dont want to insure anyone who does aesthetic procedures.
I have had some past experience with them and they are very difficult to
deal with.
I would not recommend them to any nurse.
Marsh Affinity has it own quirks about APNs in private practice.
It seems that there are no malpractice insurance companies that understand
the role of an advance practice nurse.
Thanks

While I realize NSO is the most popular insurance for nurses/nps if you
are doing anything they think might be iffy they will not insure.
Sometimes that can mean having your own practice without physician
involvement (as I found out with another company) or in the case of NSO
they would not insure me because I have an Acupuncturist in the office (not
an employee, but an independent provider she is her own legal entity and
has her own insurance.

Why has NSO been a disappointment ? I have had RN insurance through them for
25 years
