October 5, 2007 - It could now be easier for Illinois patients to get
medications for pain and chronic diseases
Governor Rod Blagojevich just signed the Nurse Practitioners Act, and the
goal is to improve health care for patients.
That means drugs such as Ritalin and other narcotics may now be prescribed by
a nurse practitioner and not just a doctor.
Proponents of this act believe allowing advance-practice nurses to prescribe
these medications will help many patients better cope with chronic diseases
and make these medications more readily available to those who need them
