[PrvPracNP] Botox

Hi Bob and fellow private practice NPs.
I have my own private practice in NJ.
I do aesthetic procedures, for example microdermabrasion
and Hydra Facials.
I took the training for Botox and collagen injections.
However, when I inquired about the malpractice insurance for
doing Botox, it would be an additional $5,000/year with Marine
Agency. Marine offers malpractice for various types of Aesthetic practices
and tattoo practices.
I carry regular malpractice insurance for the primary care portion of
my practice. I figured I have to do a lot of Botox to even break even with
having to pay an additional $5,000/year for a premimium.
Another obstacle is that Allergan, the company that makes the cosmetic
Botox, will not ship to a practice without a physician signature.
They claim that it is company policy to only ship the product to a facility
that has a physician to sign for the receiving of the medication.
Being in private practice, I don't have a physician here to sign for the
Botox. Maybe this only applies to NJ where I practice. I really don't
know.
So, based on the above two issues, I decided against offering Botox as a
service to my patients.
Good luck with your practice.
Feel free to contact me if you wish.

Greetings,
We're thinking of adding Botox to our practice. Any experience with
this good or bad?
Bob
