Do you require TB testing, chicken pox immunity vs vaccine, etc? I imagine if I do all this then I as the employer have to pay for the testing, as hospitals do with a new hire? I am hiring only people who are currently working in doctors' offices, friends of friends. Gail Neuman RNC CPHW Administrator/student midwife Orange County Maternity Center 1210 S. We do annual PPD testing, and upon hiring we review the employee's immunization record for everything. So IF they had a PPD within the year at another office, I would just add them to our yearly testing. If not sure, PPD is cheap and so we do it right away. We do not do lab testing unless there is a question about something. And yes, you the employer get to pay for it all. So we review and require proof of immunity or shot as follows : MMR 2 or born before 1957 Varicella status disease or 2 shots Hepatitis B series of 3 Tdap (especially important for the whooping cough update) within 5 years We give flu shots yearly and pretty much "require" that our employees get them. Otherwise they are at risk of getting the flu and making our patients and other employees sick too. (We've never had anyone refuse the shot once we explained how it worked and what the chances of getting influenza in a health care setting were). Because I work in Family Practice we also offer Hepatitis A shots to our staff. Good luck. I either produced the records or went to a provider for the tests or to the health department. Today, I ordered such tests for a nurse applying for another job-we'll bill to her insurance and she will pay for what is not covered. Hope this helps, Paula Paula J.
